I’m British, so of course I love talking about the weather. What is happening to our Dubai weather? Back in February we had our first sand storm or shamal as they are locally known – and we’re still having the damn things. The sky looks like dense cloud and the skyline is obscured behind a wall of mist. But worse of all is the sand. It gets everywhere. When it’s really bad you just cannot go outside. You have to battened down the hatches – be sure to close all the windows or your whole life will be covered in a layer of sand – and wait it out while watching your patio furniture, terraces, windows and cars slowly disappear.
This year has been particularly bad. Mum arrived at the beginning of March and it’s been really hit and miss. One day is a beach day, the next it’s a batten-down-the-hatches day. The temperature has been fairly consistent but the wind has been a pain in the butt.
And today we wake up to RAIN!! Last year the rain lasted for at least 20 minutes and today’s downfall spanned at least five minutes – enough time to splatter my balcony and terrace with sandy splots and make me despair at the thought of having to clean my stupid windows again!!
About this blog...
I set up this blog to reveal what real life is like here in the UAE - the good and the bad. I'll chat about what I've been up to, Dubai news and developments, my thoughts about expat life here (and in general) and reports about my holidays and adventures in the region (travel is my bag after all).
